Hildene is a Georgian Revival Style home designed by the Boston architectural firm Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge. Construction of this 24-room home began in 1903 and the Robert Todd Lincoln family moved in on June 20, 1905.
Hildene (1905). Home of Robert Todd Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's oldest son. The home includes a 1,000-pipe Aeolian organ (1908), the safe where Robert kept the papers about his mother's mental health (became basis for book, The Insanity Files: The Case of Mary Todd Lincoln), many of the family's original belongings, and one of Abraham Lincoln's top hats.
